Restaurant waiter saved £8k in tips for three years to help GCSE students

Junior Saunders, a 53-year-old waiter from Bristol, used £8,000 saved from tips to fund GCSE Boost, a wellbeing and careers event for students. The event, aimed at helping young people with their exams and mental health, saw nearly 2,000 students attend. Junior, who faced challenges growing up in foster care, wanted to give back by offering support to students, especially after mental health issues rose during lockdown. With plans to expand the initiative nationwide, Junior aims to create a movement to improve opportunities and mental wellbeing for students, particularly in smaller towns. He continues to fund the project with his tips, believing in the power of resilience and self-belief.
