According to a new, messy report, Google’s Pixel 10 series could see some big price changes as a roadmap of upcoming releases suggests Google will stick with a familiar formula.
Pixel 10 leaks thus far have revealed that Google isn’t doing much to change its design this year, but has a few camera changes in store alongside its new TSMC-made chipsets. But, now, a further report is claiming that Google will shuffle pricing for the Pixel 10 series, as well as detailing some of Google’s plans over the coming years.
Android Headlines cites “sources familiar with Google’s plans” with a few key claims – the Pixel 10 series will see price changes, Google is aiming to make its foldables cheaper, and that the core Pixel lineup won’t change in the next few years.
The report’s claims are as follows:
- Smaller “Pro” Pixel remains in the lineup through Pixel 13 in 2028
- Google’s Pixel lineup will consist of an A-series release, base Pixel flagship, two Pro models, and one foldable each year through 2028
- Pixel 10 Pro Fold may drop to $1,600
- Google aims to bring its foldable to $1,500 by 2028 (and 2027, and 2026 – all three years are mentioned)
- Pixel A-series costs $499 through 2028
- Pixel 10 Pro XL – not Pixel 10 Pro – gets $100 price hike
We’re isolating these points as, in the context of report, the claims are more than a bit messy.
Looking at the foldable plans in particular, the report calls out that “the Pixel Fold model will actually drop in price by the time we get to 2028,” specifically claiming that Google will reach a price point of $1,500 by 2028. But the report’s summary (not the report itself) and the author’s tweet claim this price would be in place by 2026, with another mention that 2027’s Fold will also cost $1,500, making it very much unclear why the 2028 date is mentioned at all.
Another claim is that the Pixel 12a, coming in 2028, would cost $499 and that the A-series as a whole will “remain $499 for the next few years.” The report also claims that the Pixel 10 Pro XL will go up in cost by $100, with Pixel 10 Pro XL being $1,200. The report previously claimed the Pixel 10 would also get a $100 price hike before updating to clarify it will be sold for the same $799 as the Pixel 9, initially having pinned the current device at $700.
The report as a whole reads as though it is citing two separate sources. One that details Google’s planned pricing for the Pixel 10 series, and another that details plans for Pixel devices in 2028, with the report then trying to fill in some of the gaps.
Of course, it’s hard to know whether or not any of this could even remain true given the current economic climate.
With US tariffs potentially delivering significant changes to the cost of essentially all products, it’s hard to imagine that Google’s plans won’t be affected in some way. Even without that in mind, it’d be hard for even Google to solidify pricing plans for new devices three years ahead of time, meaning these are likely targets more than they are anything remotely set in stone. Take everything here with a big grain of salt.
